The National Democratic Congress says it will deliver significant infrastructure projects to the Upper East Region following the party’s clean sweep of all 15 parliamentary seats in the December elections.
Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, Upper East Regional Communications Officer for the NDC, told A1 Radio that President John Dramani Mahama’s administration has already allocated between 25 and 35 GETFund projects for the region in 2025 alone.
“It is because the people of Upper East voted massively for the NDC,” Mr. Salifu said in an exclusive interview, addressing citizens’ concerns about whether the region would receive its deserved development after delivering all parliamentary seats to the party.
Among the planned projects, Zamse Senior High Technical School will receive an additional dormitory to address existing accommodation challenges, according to Mr. Salifu.
Sherigu Community Day School, where the previous administration failed to complete a six-classroom block over eight years, will be transformed into a full-fledged secondary school. The upgrades include boys’ and girls’ dormitories, teachers’ and headmaster’s bungalows, classroom blocks, a dining hall, and kitchen facilities.
Similarly, Gambibgo Community Day School will be converted from a day school into a boarding institution with dormitories for both genders, an assembly hall, dining facilities and additional classroom infrastructure.
Additional projects are planned for Pusiga, Builsa South, Builsa North, Navrongo and Bongo, with nearly all schools in the region receiving infrastructure upgrades, Salifu said.
He attributed the development focus to the region’s strong electoral support and proactive MPs who lobby for projects. Some constituencies will receive 10 to 12 GETFund projects in a single year, he said.
“The Upper East region have always done so much for the NDC, and we have also been left behind for a very long time,” Salifu said. “The little development we have in the region, I can tell you 80 to 90% of it came from the NDC.”
The Regional Coordinating Council recently advertised the GETFund projects, signaling the beginning of implementation for the infrastructure program.
