A teacher at Sirigu Integrated Senior High School in the Kassena-Nankana West District has raised concerns over inadequate infrastructure and learning facilities at the school, revealing that some students are forced to buy their own chairs to participate effectively in academic activities.
Speaking on Bolga FM’s Tinmaalgo Sanga programme, Madam Ruth Atindana said the school faces several challenges, including a shortage of classroom furniture, inadequate water supply, and the absence of a perimeter fence wall.
According to her, the shortage of chairs has become a major burden on students and their families, with some parents purchasing chairs for their children to use in class.
“The situation places an additional financial burden on parents and guardians who are already struggling to meet other educational needs,” she said.
Madam Atindana stressed that adequate furniture is essential for effective teaching and learning, noting that students are more likely to perform well academically when they study in a comfortable and conducive environment.
She also highlighted challenges with access to water, saying both students and staff struggle to obtain reliable supplies for drinking, sanitation, and hygiene purposes.
The teacher further appealed for the construction of a perimeter fence wall to improve security and protect school property.
According to her, a fence wall would help create a safer learning environment for students and staff while preventing encroachment on school lands.
Madam Atindana called on the government, development partners, philanthropists, old students, corporate organisations, and other well-meaning individuals to support the school with classroom furniture, water facilities, and other critical infrastructure.
She expressed confidence that improved facilities would enhance teaching and learning outcomes and help the school continue producing students capable of contributing to national development.
“Education should not be hindered by the lack of basic facilities. We appeal to all stakeholders to support the school with chairs, water facilities, a fence wall, and other essential resources to create a better learning environment for our students,” Madam Atindana stated.
