The Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, has engaged the media ahead of an upcoming Regional Economic Development Forum aimed at drafting a 10-year development plan for the region.
The engagement took place in Bolgatanga and was used to outline the purpose, structure, and expectations for the forum scheduled to run from June 29 to July 1.
According to the Minister, one of his first actions after assuming office was to set up an independent working committee to lead and coordinate the forum and the broader 10-year development plan.
“The committee is made up of technical persons from all sectors. Their role is to bring expertise to the table and ensure the plan we develop is realistic, inclusive, and focused on long-term growth,” Mr. Atanga said.
The three-day forum, starting June 29, will bring together technical experts, civil society, traditional authorities, and other stakeholders from across the region.
The goal is to collate ideas and set clear priorities for infrastructure, agriculture, education, health, and local economic development over the next decade.
The Regional Minister urged residents to support the process and avoid personal or partisan interests.
“We must come together as one people. This plan will only succeed if we focus on the development of the region, not individual gain,” he stressed.
Prof. Sumaila Mohammed Asaah, a member of the working committee, also called on residents to take the initiative seriously, as other regions have done with their development plans.
Prof. Asaah, who participated in the planning of the Upper West Regional development plan, expressed confidence that the Upper East Region can achieve similar progress.
“The Upper East Region is blessed with great human and natural resources. If we commit to this process, there is no reason we cannot develop like other regions,” he said.
In outlining participation and venues for the forum, the Regional Minister noted that all political parties and key ministries have been invited.
The Minister also called on the media to help promote investment opportunities and market the region to potential investors.
