The Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Nabdam Constituency, Daniel Animah, has commended Hajia Jemila Dugkrug for contesting the Talensi Constituency chairmanship position in the party’s recently concluded constituency executive elections.

Speaking on A1 Radio on Saturday as the NPP held constituency executive elections nationwide, Mr. Animah described her decision to contest as a positive step for women’s participation in politics and party leadership.

“The issue is that, women would want to come, but will women support women?” he questioned.

He observed that more women are now occupying leadership positions within the party than in the past, noting that female members are increasingly taking up roles beyond the traditional Women’s Organizer position, including communications and other key offices.

Mr. Animah stressed the need for greater support for women seeking leadership positions and encouraged female party members to rally behind one another as they pursue opportunities to serve.

“As for men, immediately you show interest, your ‘brotherman’ will support you. So until women realize that they are not fighting with men, they are not fighting among their own gender, but they are seeking the interest of the people, nobody will support them.”

He pointed to the party’s history of female regional leaders and Ghana’s growing record of women occupying high public office as evidence that women can excel in leadership when given the opportunity.

“Who ever thought that at a point in time, Ghana would have a female vice president, and maybe another potential person becoming a female president of this country?” he questioned, adding, “Once you believe it, dream it, pursue it and you will achieve it.”

Mr. Animah described Hajia Dugkrug’s candidacy as a bold step that could inspire more women to enter politics and contest for influential leadership positions in the future.

“Even if she doesn’t win, it is a motivation to people who would be coming.”

Hajia Jemila Dugkrug, however, went on to win the election, making history as the first woman to be elected NPP Constituency Chairperson in Talensi.
