The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Technical Universities Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) have temporarily suspended their ongoing strike action with immediate effect.

The two associations announced the decision in a joint press statement dated August 20, 2026, following what they described as a constructive engagement with the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Vice Chancellors Ghana and Vice Chancellors of Technical Universities Ghana.

According to the associations, the stakeholders have committed to renewed and time-bound discussions aimed at resolving the outstanding issues that triggered the industrial action.

GAUA and TUSAAG have consequently directed their members across affected institutions to resume normal duties while the discussions continue.

However, the associations stressed that the suspension is temporary and conditional on demonstrable progress in the negotiations.

They warned that they reserve the right to resume the suspended industrial action without further notice if the engagement, particularly with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), fails to produce satisfactory outcomes within a reasonable and agreed timeframe.

The two associations said the decision to suspend the strike was taken in the spirit of good faith and social dialogue, while giving the ongoing engagement the necessary space to yield results.

They expressed appreciation to their members for their solidarity and discipline throughout the period of the industrial action and thanked the general public for its patience and understanding.

The joint statement was signed by GAUA President Rev. Amoah Kwaku Karikari and General Secretary Charles Kojo Aidoo, together with TUSAAG President Stanley Akamiri Abopaam and General Secretary Jeremiah Awini.
