Health directors from across Ghana are expected in the Upper East Region for this year’s Annual Health Directors Conference, scheduled for September 8 to 12, 2026.
Bongo District Health Director Estella Abazesi said the five-day gathering will bring health directors together to deliberate on issues affecting healthcare delivery while undertaking a series of community-based health activities in the region.
Speaking on Bolga FM’s Tinmaalgo Sanga programme, Madam Abazesi said activities planned as part of the conference include community entry, health education, health screening, community engagement and training on disease prevention.
She said the community activities would provide an opportunity for health directors and other stakeholders to interact directly with residents and promote preventive healthcare.
According to Madam Abazesi, the Upper East Region is currently leading the implementation of the government’s Free Primary Healthcare initiative, making preventive healthcare an important part of activities planned for the conference.
She said community members would be taken through practical measures they can adopt to prevent diseases and protect their health, while residents would also have opportunities to undergo basic health screening.
Madam Abazesi said the conference, which is held annually, also provides health directors with an opportunity to share experiences, discuss challenges confronting healthcare delivery and explore measures to improve health outcomes.
She said hosting the national gathering would further provide an opportunity to strengthen community health interventions and draw attention to preventive healthcare in the Upper East Region.
The conference is expected to run from September 8 to 12, 2026.
