‘Dead’ Woman Found Alive In SA Morgue

0

A South African woman is recovering in hospital after being discovered alive in a mortuary fridge.

The woman was taken to Carletonville morgue, in Gauteng province, having been declared dead by paramedics following a road accident.

Ambulance company Distress Alert said she had shown “no form of life”, South Africa’s TimesLive website reports.

But when a morgue worker returned to check on the body in the fridge, he found the woman was breathing.

An official has confirmed to the BBC the woman is now being treated in a hospital east of Johannesburg after being referred by forensics officers. She has not been named.

An investigation into the incident is being carried out, with the family demanding answers.

“As a family we won’t talk about this unless the police, paramedics and the mortuary officials who were involved are present. We need answers,” a family member told the BBC, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The man said the family was in shock.

“The issue is that we need answers, that’s all we want and we don’t have any clarity now,” he added.

Distress Alert operations manager Gerrit Bradnick said there was “no proof of any negligence” on his company’s behalf.

“This did not happen because our paramedics are not properly trained,” he told TimesLive.

Mr Bradnick told TimesSelect she was one of several people involved in a car accident which left two others dead on Sunday, 24 June.

This is not the first time this year someone has woken up in a mortuary after being declared dead.

In January an inmate at a jail in Spain’s Asturias region regained consciousness hours before an autopsy was due to be performed.

Three doctors had certified him dead.

It is also not the first time this has happened in South Africa. Seven years ago, a 50-year-old man woke up screaming in an Eastern Cape morgue. In 2016 another road accident victim, from KwaZulu Natal, was declared dead, only to be found breathing the next day.

He died five hours after the discovery.

Two NDC MPs Have Secretly Acquired Ghana Card – Mensah-Bonsu Alleges

0

Majority Leader and Minister for parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, has claimed that two NDC members of Parliament have secretly registered for the Ghana card contrary to the collective stance of the minority on the issue.

In an interview with Starr News’ Ibrahim Alhassan, Mr. Mensah-Bonsu said the two begged the NIA officials not to disclose their identities.

He however added that the individuals in question are different from the earlier photos that popped up on social media bearing the names of some MPs.

“Even when they are making that passionate appeal, some of them have gone ahead and registered. Last Friday when I went there to do my own, there were two of them with me. I won’t mention their names because they themselves had indicated to the officers that they shouldn’t unveil their identities which explains why they didn’t do it at where the people were doing it near the chamber.

“They chose to come to the restaurant to do it. Why did they opt to come to the restaurant? They wanted to have some secrecy. I wont mention their names now until push comes to shove,” he claimed.

The Minority has maintained using passports and birth certs alone as proof of identity for acquisition of the card will de-nationalise many Ghanaians since scores in the rural areas of the country do not have either of the requirement. They have therefore refused to register for the cards and called on their members to also stay off.

Meanwhile, former President John Kufuor has backed calls by the Minority saying the Voter ID card must be added to the requirements for the Ghana card.

“Documents that will help identify a citizen as a citizen will be sovereign authority in him or her so if your voter ID is not incorporated…I think it should be added,” the former President noted when officials of the National Identification Authority went to his home to register him for the card

‘Stop seeking cheap popularity with your coloured stories’ – Stan Dogbe slams Okyehene

0

A former Presidential staffer under the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama administration, Stan Dogbe has taken a swipe at Okyehene Amoatia Ofori Panin II who disclosed how former Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur was taken to the 37 military hospital before his death.

Lashing out at the Paramount chief of Akyem Abuakwa, Stan Dogbe described the revered chief’s narration as an attempt to score cheap popularity.

In a video posted on Facebook, the Okyehene is heard saying the former Vice President who died on Friday, 29 June 2018, was transported to the hospital at the back of a pick-up, when efforts to revive him failed.
According to the Okyehene, there was no ambulance to convey the former vice president to the 37 Military Hospital — where he was pronounced dead.

“As it’s been for 14 years, any time I go there, I meet my friend and we’ll talk, shake hands … and then go to our different machines… I heard ‘bang’! Three women in the gym were screaming, I left my machine and went and there laid my friend trying to find some air to breathe.

We gathered around him and pumped his heart as hard as we could, yelled out his name; his wife was calling out: ‘Jesus, save him!’ I just said: ‘call the ambulance, let’s take him to the hospital.’ There were about seven, eight of us, and something dawned on me. When we took him out, there was no ambulance, there was no car, so we threw the former vice-president in the back of a pick-up and drove off to 37” he narrated

But Stan Dogbe who labelled the narration as a ‘coloured popularity seeking story’ has questioned why the Chief did not send the late former Vice President to the hospital in his car.

In a Facebook post the former Presidential Staffer advised that “someone should please tell the chief that he was not the only one present when the tragedy struck our late boss and VP of this country to go around talking. “

Stan Dogbe argued that, the Okyehene “had a luxury vehicle there, and many others had their cars there, if he had a good heart and a spirit of helping others, maybe; just maybe, he would have sent him to the hospital in his car.”

He further urged the Paramount chief to “cease the recklessness of seeking cheap popularity by going to public events and seeking to share coloured stories. Granted that he was sent to the hospital in someone’s vehicle, a pick-up, is the back seat of the vehicle, the bucket of the pick-up as his statement sort to portray. Which gym in this country has a standby ambulance anyway?

Your ‘son’, Nana Addo is watching on as the National Ambulance Service collapses… deal with it and leave the family of our late boss to mourn their son, husband, grandpa, father, uncle and relation.”
