Paramount Chief of the Sakote Traditional Area in the Nabdam District, Naba Segri Bewong has called for the inclusion of Traditional Authorities in major decision making process in the district.
He made this call at a public forum on “One Million Dollars per Constituency” policy organized by A1 Radio at the Akayet Hotel in Bolgatanga.
According to him, Assemblies hardly consult traditional authorities in their areas, so as to get the inputs on the ordinary citizens in district development plans.
Naba Segri Bewong, like many other Chiefs in the region, think leaving Traditional Authorities out of strategic decision making at the district level, is one reason why community members do not see many Government development initiatives as their own programmes.
He indicated that the Chiefs are the custodians of the lands and have in-depth understanding of the needs and challenges of the people and can also profess the best ideas to help government’s development agenda.
On his part, the Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional Area, Naba Baba Salifu Lemyaarum lauded the policy of government indicating that it will help in propelling the development of the various constituencies.
He, however, called on government to come clear on the amount to be disbursed in Ghana cedis in order for Ghanaians to have a deeper understanding of the amounts to expect.
