The Senior Minister, Osafo Marfo has disclosed that one of three proposed development authorities to propel Ghana’s progress is set to be launched in Kumasi today.

The Middle Belt Development Authority will coordinate development programmes in the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and Eastern regions.

Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo-Maafo, is hopeful that the initiatives will bring relief to Ghanaians.

The Middle Belt Development Authority — which was among three proposed development authorities — was first announced during the NPP 2016 electioneering campaign, and was said to administer the proposed Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP).

IPEP was touted as a programme that will champion the infrastructural development and poverty alleviation in rural and deprived communities across the country.

The two other development authorities include the Northern Development Authority, for the three regions of the north of Ghana; and the Coastal Development Authority for the four coastal regions.

However, as the Senior Minister explains, the Middle Belt Development Authority would now have a mandate that extends beyond administering the proposed IPEP.

“If you put Eastern, Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions together as a developmental area, you are looking at the ecology of these three – forest to Savanah. They have common minerals et cetera,” he said.
