Deputy agric minister says government has conquered the fall armyworm

Whereas some farmers are still battling the invasion of the fall armyworm, government says it has conquered the disease nationwide.

Deputy Minister for Agriculture in-Charge of Annual Crops, Dr. Sagre Bambangi says although the armyworms still exist in some areas, the situation will not affect the yields.

Dr. Bambangi said this when he visited a farm in the Bongo district to ascertain the effects of the distractive pets.

“We have conquered the armyworm because the essence or the goal is for us to ensure that our crops recover so if the armyworm has not been able to deprive us from our bumper harvest that we are expecting then we say we have conquered the armyworm. But we know there are still reminisce of it in the system.”

He added that as part of efforts at eradicating the worms totally government will partner neighboring country to tackle the menace holistically.

A 31 year old professional teacher, Jacob Abongo Anam who is into large scale maize farming said although his farm was infected he was able to fight the worms through the approved method recommended by the agriculture ministry.
