The Upper East Regional branch Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Eric Amoh, has appealed to government through the Minister of Information to make provisions for a bus that can convey journalists in the region on assignments.

Mr. Amoh said the provision of the bus will enable journalists to independently travel to the hinterlands within the region for information and also bring to bear projects of government without much assistance from the regional coordinating council.

He made the appeal at a media engagement with journalists in the upper east region held at the regional coordinating council Friday.

According to him, “sitting in office and only listening is not the best”, so there is the need to have a good bus with which journalists can work effectively.

“I want to take advantage to appeal to you and your office to try as much as possible to see if you can direct for a good bus that can convey journalist in the region on assignments to be provided. This one will helps us to do things other than the RCC organizing. Once you have the vehicle, you can source money from somewhere and fuel it and travel to the hinterlands and get information. And when we do that, we will also help to bring some of the projects that governing is undertaking in the hinterlands to bear. Otherwise sitting in the office and only listening will not be the best” He said.

His appeal comes in the wake of complains by journalists in the upper east region over the rickety nature of vehicles given to them during working visits or tours by Ministers and other governmental officials.

A cited example was when a rickety 207 bus that was designated for journalists broke down on the journey to Bawku where the President was scheduled to inspect progress of works on the Bawku –Bolgatanga road, the Tamne Bridge and have a durbar with the chiefs and people of Tempane during his 3-day visit of the region in October last year.

The breakdown led to loss of time as journalist could not catch up with the fast moving vehicles of the President’s entourage.

But Mr. Amoh believes effectives work will be accomplished and lives of journalist saved when a good bus is provided.
