The Member of Parliament for Garu, Akuka Albert Alalzuuga, has described as unfair the proposed criterion for the selection of research assistants for Ghana parliament.

It was reported that some members of the House and scholars proposed a minimum qualification of first class degrees and master’s degrees for persons who will be selected for the job.

But speaking on Day Break Upper East on A1 Radio Thursday, the lawmaker said such criterion is not best and should be reconsidered. He added that the work of the research assistant at parliament is important and delicate such that it needed people the individual members can trust.

Mr Alalzuuga noted that it is not only holders of the proposed qualification that can deliver.
Buttressing his argument, the Garu legislator said there are great performers in research and other fields that do not have first class degree and master’s degrees.

He stated some of his colleagues at parliament do not have the said qualifications themselves.

“Some of the parliamentarians do not even have first class degrees and masters degrees. So you don’t have such qualifications and you want your research assistants to have that? He questioned.

“Research assistants should be more about who you trust”. Alalzuuga stressed.
