Directors of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) in the Upper East Region have been sternly warned not to use official vehicles meant for Planting for Food Jobs Programme for Weddings and funeral ceremonies. Regional Minister, Rockson Ayine Bukari, issued the warning last Friday when he handed over 13 pick-up vehicles to MoFA regional director, Francis Ennor for onward distribution to district directors of MoFA in the region.
The vehicles, funded by the Canadian government for nationwide distribution were given to all the 13 old municipal and district assemblies in the region and are meant to address the transport needs of Municipal and District Directors of MoFA in implementing the programme.
According to him, the vehicles are mainly for agriculture purposes and district directors must ensure they make them available for any agriculture activities including monitoring of farmers’ activities by agriculture extension officers.
He revealed that he will put up a monitoring team to be headed by his liaison officer to ensure the vehicles are properly put to use.
“Any officer, who misuses a car, will not be spared, not at all. They are not for weddings, they are for Planting for Food and Jobs and other agric activities. Weekends, the cars must be parked. After working, the car must be parked. I don’t want to see any car at a beer bar, wedding or a funeral.” The minister cautioned.
Reaffirming how he will ensure careful use of the vehicles, Mr. Bukari said he had already directed all the Municipal and District Chief Executives in the region to take note of how the vehicles will be used by agriculture directors.
The vehicles are to be given to district directors of agriculture in all the 13 old district and municipal assemblies in the region while arrangements will be made to procure additional two vehicles for the newly created districts – Temapne and Bolgatanga East.
