“If You are a Ghost, Stay in your Grave”- Dep. Auditor General Tells Government Workers

The Deputy Auditor General of the Central Government Audit Department, George Swanzy Winful has warned government workers who might attempt to forge documents, to start eradicating such ideas from their minds as the Auditing of government Workers in the Upper West Region as part of cleaning the government payroll begun on Tuesday October 2, 2018. Adding that “…if you are a ghost, stay in your grave”.

Mr. Winful said, the exercise is likely to save some space within the government payroll that can enable government to employ more people, especially the unemployed youth to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country.

“What we have found so far gives us the feelings to continue, the exercise is very likely to free some space for the teaming youth and also reduce government expenditure” he stated.

He made this known at Wa, in the Upper West region at the opening of a sensitization meeting on the Nation-wide payroll and personnel verification Audit.

The Deputy Auditor General, also appealed to the government workers in the region to comply in order for the one week exercise to go on smoothly.

On his part, the Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Amidu Chinnia Issahaku, commended the Audit Service for extending the exercise to the Upper West Region and re-echoed the importance of the exercise, noting that, the work-out will help save the state some resources for the development of the country.

“The initiative by the Auditor General must be commended and supported by all of us gathered here. The success of this exercise would save the state some resources for development and this will inure to the benefit of all Ghanaians and not just the Auditor General” he indicated.

Meanwhile, after the opening ceremony, the Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Amidu Chinnia Issahaku was used to start the exercise as he was the first to be verified among all the workers in the Upper West Region.

About 19,000 government workers are expected to go through the exercise within the stipulated time.

However, the exercise is scheduled from today, October 2, to October 9, 2018, with the Upper West Regional Hospital being a center for the hospital staff, Health directorate also another center for health workers, whereas Wa Sec-Tech is a center for all teachers, GES Municipal directorate has also been set up as a center to cater for education workers. Again, all the various heads of departments and government workers in all the eleven districts will also get their centers in their respective district capitals.
