The Tamale Polytechnic has finally been converted to a Technical University, in line with amendments to the Technical Universities Act (Act 922) by Parliament.

So from now, the Tamale Polytechnic (T-Poly) will be known and referred to as Tamale Technical University (TaTU) and will now have the right to run Degree and continue with it High National Diploma programmes.

However, its neighbour, Bolgatanga Polytechnic in the Upper East Region is still fighting to get elevated from Polytechnic to Technical University.

Recent reports from the Polytechnic hinted that, some Lecturers of the Bolgatanga Polytechnic are being lured by some Technical Universities and there are fears that, if the Polytechnic is not converted soon, some qualified and essential Lecturers may be lost to these Technical Universities.

In the case of the Tamale Technical University, the President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo gave a Presidential assent to the amended act on August 13, 2018, hence the change of the name and status to the Tamale Technical University.

A statement issued by the University and signed by the Public Relation Officer, Alhaji Mohammed Aziz gave the hint that, the then T-Poly is now TaTU.

The statement announced that, as part of activities to adjust TaTU into its new status, there will be some new developments in the University towards creating a new image that befits the Institution’s new status as a University.

Management of the University has commended the Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice, Alhaji Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia for fulfilling their promise to convert the Polytechnic into a Technical University before the end of 2018.

The University was also happy with the support and contribution of Chiefs of the area toward the struggle to get the transition done, earlier than expected.
