Works on Bolgatanga-Bawku-Polmakom Road to resume and completed in 2019

The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta has given assurance that, the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Polmakom road in the Upper East region will receive government attention in 2019 to enable the Brazilian Contractor Queiro Galvao to continue from where it has stopped.

The Minister gave the assurance in the 2019 Budget Statement presented to Parliament on Thursday, November 15, 2018.

The Bolgatanga-Bawku-Polmakom road has been issue for discussion on many Radio stations and grouping in the Bolgatanga Municipality and some other districts, that use the road, which is in a deplorable state.

There have various angles to the discussion, with the members and communicators of the opposition National Democratic Congress claiming that President Mahama and the NDC led government awarded the Contract before leaving office in 2016 and have always blamed the NPP led government frustrating the Brazilian Contractor but not releasing funds for the road construction to continue.

Then on the other hand members and Communication Team of the governing New Patriotic Party claim the NDC only took the Brazilian Contractor to site just for propaganda purpose and never made any payment for the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Polmakom road project commence until the NPP came to power to get the road project commenced.

It been a critical issue for the two Parties in the Upper East Region and with the Finance Minister’s assurance, people from the Upper East Region will be watching what will happen on the road in 2019.

Meanwhile a local Contractor, Mawums Construction Limited, who was also awarded a portion of the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Polmakom road to work on, is still on site and working on his alloted section.

Other road works the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta mentioned and pledged government’s commitment to complete include the Chuchuliga-Sandema road, Navrongo-Naaga road which are also in the Upper East.

Others in other part of the country are, Bridge on the Volta River at Volivo, Nsawam – Apedwa Road (Kwafokrom-Apedwa Road) Nkwanta-Oti Damanko Road.
