The people of Gorogo and Zorkor-Kanga in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region are to benefit from two separate 3-unit classroom blocks under governments One Million Dollar per constituency initiative.

The school-block for each community will provide classroom facilities for pupils as well as a head teachers office, staff common room and store room.

Peter Ayinbisa, District Chief Executive for Bongo cut the sod on Friday at a brief ceremony to mark the commencement of the projects, which is expected to be completed in 4 months.

The visibly elated Assembly Member for Gorogo electoral Area, Anafo Stephen described the project as a dream come true; noting that Gorogo community has in the past two decades cried for a Junior High School Block.

He said We have had a Primary School for over 20 years now. We haven’t gotten any junior high. We have been struggling to get a junior but its not been possible for us. We thank God today the honorable DCE and other officials have come to cut sod for the construction of a junior high for the community.

Citing the ordeal of pupils in the community after completing primary school, the assembly Man said it was a pity. Me for instance, at the time we finished primary school here, we used to crossover to different communities to go to junior high.

Even by that time, we had to cross water and swim across to go and attend classes. It has not been easy. Some of our pupils usually have to go to Bongo town and other communities and the distance is not closer. They go through a lot of stress.

Under the same initiative, six boreholes would be provided to address water crises in six other communities across Bongo District. Beneficiary communities shall include; Ankofre zone, Zorkor-Kudorogo, Feo- Azabre and Beo Kumboso. The rest are Soe-Kolong and Sanabisi.

Speaking in an interview, the DCE, Peter Ayinbisa explained that governments One million Dollars per Constituency was designed to come in the form of policy and infrastructural initiatives; and not in cash as perceived by many.

According to him, When the President was going round campaigning, he promised that when hes given the nod to govern this country, every constituency will get one million dollar equivalent of projects. When we started people thought that the president wasn’t going to be able to deliver. Others thought that the president was going to put cash into the assemblies or into the constituencies. What we have sort to do and promised the Ghanaian people is to bring them projects equivalent to the one million dollar facility.

Touching on the fulfillment of some of governments interventions, Hon. Ayinbisa enumerated various developmental projects that have been undertaken in the Bongo District. He mentioned the one village one dam projects, water systems, toilet projects, as well as the warehouse facility for storing food produce among other development initiatives.

The DCE further appealed to residents and traditional authorities in the district to make available plots of land when the need be; for developmental projects in their communities.
The total cost of this phase of projects is estimated at GH¢500,000.00.
