The Zanlerigu-Gane community in the Nabdam District in the Upper East Region has celebrated a 103 year old-farmer, Yenyet Zinah-Naan, whose outstanding and selfless contributions to the development of the community led to the establishment of a community Senior High School and got many youth from the area to accept former education as a way to develop themselves.

Over the weekend the community’s leadership held a programme to celebrate the achievements of Yenyet Zinah-Naan as a farmer and philanthropist and to get the younger generation on the community to emulate his selfless contribution to Zanlerigu-Gane.

The same programme was used to raise funds to build a befitting structure for the Zanlerigu Community Day Senior High School which was started in a structure belonging to a Junior High School in the community.

A speech delivered by his son, Kayeng Fredrick said it is important for the community to contribute their resources to provide a permanent structure for the Zanlerigu Community Day Senior High School.

“The community is noted for its devoted support for education and it is by this that our father foresaw that it necessary to use his achievement to raise funds to support the current Community Day School which is temporally housed in Zanlerigu Junior High School and to create awareness that, Zanlerigu-Gane community deserves better. For the past years, most Junior High Leavers normally find it difficult to travel miles to neighboring communities to have quality education due to financial difficulties. We, therefore, applaud our father for his outstanding contributions as well as appealing to government to come to our aid as we the people of Zanlerigu-Gane deserve nothing but the best in education.” He said.

Meanwhile, the headmaster of the Zanlerigu Community Day School, Dominic Zuure, explained that the need for this Community Day School is key because the whole of the district has only one secondary school; the Kongo Senior High School which does not have the capacity to enroll most students, therefore, government should come in to support the school in building permanent structures as it is still using the Zanlerigu Junior High School block to undertake its activities.
