Former Member of Parliament for Nabdam Constituency in the Upper East Region on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Boniface Gambila, has staged a comeback to reclaim the seat.
“2020 I will come back because my desire to remove the NDC is still as fresh as it was in 2000. So, I am all out and things will change”, he confirmed.
The one-term MP lost the seat in the 2016 elections to incumbent National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Member of Parliament, Dr. Kurt Nawaane.
But Mr. Gambila says the people of Nabdam who expected a positive change have been deprived of many social interventions since the takeover of the NDC MP.
“The good thing is that, people have seen the difference now. They thought if they changed me, they were going to get heaven and after changing me they got hell. So, certainly, heaven has to be restored,” he said.
Mr. Gambila who claimed he achieved a lot in the area of education, roads and social interventions during his tenure as MP expressed optimism of returning to parliament after the 2020 elections.
Mr. Gambila who spoke exclusively with A1 News said in his absence as MP, the people Nabdam constituency “cannot calculate the quantify of losses that have been incurred”.
Mr. Gambila who was a regional minister under the erstwhile John Kufour administration now serves as Board Member of the Northern Development Authority (NDA).
Meanwhile, information available to A1 News indicates some individuals in the NPP want the former Nabdam legislator to hang his political boots and pave way for youth within the party to contest the seat.
But Mr. Gambila disagrees saying “how old is the president of Ghana, how old is the president of Cote D’voire, Uganda? Are they youth? Are they not doing well for Africa? Was I made the regional minister because I was old or younger? It was on my brains and input in building the party”
The former Nabdam legislator went further stating that the people of Nabdam constituency lacks many social amenities and therefore he “will not sit down and advise lazy people who may not want to put in their energy” because he is aged.
