St. Augustine College (AUGUSCO) in Cape Coast in the Central Region has won the 2019 National Science and Maths Quiz(NSMQ 2019) with a total of 39 points. This is the second time St. Augustine College has been to the final and have won on all the two occasions.
The to total points gained by the students earned the an amount of GHc 2, 340.00 sponsored bt the Ghana Commercial Bank. The bank offered an amount of GHc15.00 for each correct answer.
For placing first, St. Augustine had a grand prize of GHc40,000.00 to the school, GHc20,000.00 to the team of teachers and GHc20,000.00 to the students.
Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC) in the Greater Accra Region which was looking forward to win the contest for the 6th time, placed second with a total points of 34. They have won the quiz 5 times and for their prize the had GHc30, 000.00 for the school, GHc17,000.00 for the team of teachers and GHc17,000.00 for the contestants.
The defending champion St. Peter’s Senior High School (PESCO) from the Eastern Region could not defend the trophy the school won in 2018 and rather placed third with a total of 25 points.
The school has won the quiz three times and for placing third in 2019 the won GHc 20,000.00 school 15000 students 15000 team of teachers.
St. Augustine College entered Round 5 with 36 points, while Presbyterian Boys SHS entered with 34 points and St. Peter’s SHS with 25 points.
Accra College of Medicine presented all the finalists with opportunities to study Medicine at the college and with all fees covering the 6year course paid by the college.
The Augustine students and their teacher and the quiz mistress will be traveling to Nairobi in Kenya and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
The quiz mistress had a one year fuel supply from Goil.
