After an unsuccessful attempt at leading the National Democratic Congress as Presidential Candidate, Stephen Atubiga has redirected his money and attention towards the Binduri seat in the Upper East Region.
Stephen Atubiga is among the five persons who picked nomination forms at the end of the Friday, July 12 deadline.
In the case of the NDC Presidential Race, Stephen Atubiga could not file his nomination even though he paid and picked a form. He blamed his ability to file on the filing fee, which he lamented was too much.
Stephen Atubiga has not complained about the GHc25,000.00 filing fee yet and so it can be concluded that the fee for the Binduri Primaries is not beyond his strength.
If he files by the July 22 deadline, he will be contesting with the incumbent Member of Parliament and former Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Dr. Robert Kuganab-lem who looks prepared to fight any obstacle on his way back to parliament.
This will be the third time Stephen Atubiga, the professional Electrician, is contesting the NDC constituency primaries in Binduri. He contested in 2011 and lost to Ben Noah Azure ahead of the 2012 Parliamentary Election and also contested in 2015 and lost to Dr. Robert Kuganab-lem ahead of the 2016 Parliamentary Election.
Other who picked nomination forms are Azimbe Aruk Simon Azarob, Godwin Xavier Ayeebo and a former Member of Parliament for Binduri, Ben Noah Azure.
The incumbent MP for Binduri Dr. Robert Kuganab-lem in 2015 beat the then MP, Ben Noah Azure and Stephen Atubiga in the constituency primaries.
In that contest Dr Robert Kunglinaba polled 4387 votes, Ben Noah Azure polled 2735 and Stephen Atubiga polled 2310 votes.
