When the National Democratic Congress(NDC) closed the sale of nomination forms and the name of Abraham Amaliba was not found on the Bolgatanga Central Constituency list of aspirants, many were surprised.
It was surprising because the NDC legal team members is known to be interested in the Bolgatanga Central seat in parliament and was ready to face Isaac Adongo, the incumbent Member of Parliament, anytime.
Some media reports suggest that, Mr. Amaliba deliberately decided not to pick a nomination form in protest of some divisive actions by some party elders in the constituency.
It is not clear what the party elders did to “provoke” Mr. Amaliba, but A1radioonline.com has learnt from some other media reports that the NDC legal team member was not happy with what was done and thought these divisive party elders have made up their minds to support and make the contest easier for one aspirant.
As it stands, if all three aspirants pay their filing fees, the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo will be facing once again, a former Member of Parliament for the Bolgatanga Central, Opam Brown and George Gamson, just as they did ahead of the 2016 Parliamentary election.
In that 2015 parliamentary primaries, Isaac Adongo won with 4,290 votes. Abraham Amaliba polled 3,050 votes, while the incumbent MP then, Opam Brown had 2,956 and George Gamson had 906 votes.
Another surprise is the return of former MP, Opam Brown to contest the primaries in August 2019.
There are however some party members who are not surprised at the return of Opam Brown, claiming that, he may be counting on some work that was done during the last constituency elections.
