Thirty-two parliamentary aspirants of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region have filed to contest in the primaries slated for September 28, 2019.
The NPP opened nominations for the race in twelve out of the fifteen constituencies in the region which the party christened ‘orphan constituencies’ because it holds no seat in those constituencies.
At the close of filing of nomination forms on Saturday August 3, 32 aspirants had submitted their completed nomination forms at the regional party office in Bolgatanga and are now set to go through vetting. Meanwhile, their forms shall be transmitted to the National Office of the party for scrutiny before vetting which fixed from August 10 to 15, 2019.
Notable names in the race are former Municipal Chief Executive of Bawku, Abdulai Abanga who has filed to contest in Binduri constituency, Rex Asanga, 2016 parliamentary candidate of NPP for Bolgatanga Central constituency, Boniface Gambila, former MP for Nabdam, Mike Zuri, a relatively new face in politics but very popular development activist in Nabdam, Peter Ayinbisa, District Chief Executive of Bongo, Emmanuel Avoka, District Chief Executive of Garu and Joseph Amiyuure, Municipal Chief Executive of Bolgatanga.
