President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has entreated Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the country to adopt special client sensitive approaches to mobilize revenue devoid of challenges to the rate payers.

This he said can be achieved using the newly introduced digital address system and the Ghana Post GPS.

“You are being inaugurated at a time when efforts are being made by government, through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, to enhance Internally Generated Funds (IGFs) of MMDAs, particularly in the area of property rates. To this end, I invite you to take advantage of automation and other innovative systems developed by the Ministry to improve your IGF”.

The president said this in a speech read on his behalf by Deputy Attorney General, Lawyer Joseph Dindiok Kpemka during the inaugural ceremony of the Bolgatanga Municipal assembly.

While encouraging the new Assembly Members to support their various Assemblies to raise Internally Generated Funds(IGF), the President entreated the Assemblies to increase allowances paid to members when there is a growth in  the IGF.

Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Joseph Amiyuure Atura also impressed upon  the new Assembly to regularly hold meetings with their community members in order to take stock of developmental challenges confronting the various communities.

Mr. Amiyuure holds the view that the absence of an executive committee has adversely affected the smooth operation of the assembly believes the newly constituted assembly “will pave the way for the assembly to vigorously pursue its programs”.

In all, 39 members of the assembly comprising of 27 elected members and 12 government appointees were sworn into office.
