NDA to desilt Sakote dam in Nabdam District

Farmers in the Sakote community in the Nabdam District of the Upper East for many years have been pleading on relevant authorities to come to their aid to desilt the only dam that provides them livelihood.

The dam which they say helps them in their agricultural practices since 2000 has not been desilted and its embankment has broken down thereby making it difficult to hold large volumes of water.

They hold a view that their Chief was the originator of one of President Nana Akuffo Addo’s flagship program,One Village One Dam policy, yet they have not benefited in that regards from the government.

But during a visit to the Nabdam District, the Executive Director of the Northern Development Authority(NDA),Patrick Seidu has assured the chiefs and people of Sakote of government’s commitment in expanding their dam.

“We have done a bottle up approach to find out what will the community members want of government gives them one million dollars? And we are much aware that this is what the people of Sakote wanted”, he added.

The Director who commissioned work to begin added that more projects will be rolled out in the district under the NDA.

“through the use of the One Million Dollar per One constituency policy funds, my outfit can assure the district of more projects”, he stated.

Expressing gratitude for the assurance given by the Director, the Paramount Chief of the Sakote Traditional Area, Naba Segri Bewong therefore explained that the dam if worked on will bring the needed development to the community.

” If this dam is worked on, our animals will no longer go to the white River in search of water likewise farmers.”he said.

Meanwhile, Madam Agnes Namoo, DCE for the area has admonished the public to adhere to the directives given by health experts on the measures of how to stop the spread of the new deadly coronavirus.
