A Philanthropist, Lawyer Lamtiig Apanga, has presented some Coronavirus relief items to the major health facilities and chips compounds in the NABDAM District in the Upper East Region to support the fight against the spread of the pandemic.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) including nose masks, gloves, hand sanitizers, Veronica buckets and medicated soap were handed over to the health facilities as well as some residents during the exercise.

In all 11 health care centers and CHPS compounds including Kongo-Logre, Nangodi, Pelungo, Zanlerigu, Sakote, Ayamfoya, Kongo Daborin, Pitanga and others were beneficiaries of the donation. The Bolgatanga regional hospital and Nangode Police station were also supported with hand Sanitizers, gloves and nose mask.

This initiative dubbed “Lawyer Lamtiig Apanga’ Suppprt Against the Spread of Covid19” with the support of his team seeks to support the less privileged in times like this especially in rural areas because these people are mostly left out or get late support in times like this.

Mr. Lamtiig Apanga in the company of his friends and volunteers presented the items to the beneficiary health facilities and undertook public education on preventive mechanisms to stop the spread of the virus.

He said that “as the son of the land and a native of he land it is extremely important that we educate our people in the language that they understand beat and provide them with the basic logistics to help the health workers discharge their duties with little fear. The attention so far has been in Accra, kumasi and the big cities with little or no attention given to the rural communities. So I discussed with some friends about taking this initiative and with their support we raised some funds to buy these items to support the health facilities and the people in the people of Nabdam near Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region”

He said it’s disappointing that even though the people are aware of corona virus the measures currently in place and the level of awareness, particularly regarding personal preventive steps are inadequate. While it is my prayer that the virus does not spread to the Upper East Region, the Region and its inhabitants, nonetheless, have to take preventive steps and be prepared should an outbreak occur in the district.

“When I got here it was observed that government’s efforts were not adequate and several of the health facilities visited did not have the basic preventive equipment. Veronica buckets, sanitizers and other PPEs were scarce which represent a challenge for the people. It is expected that the intervention from my friends and I, although insufficient to address the entire needs of the people, will complement the efforts of government as calls for intervention from government and other stakeholders are made”, he added.

Edith Adongo the Officer-In-charge of Pitanga Clinic who received some of the items on behalf of the Clinic commended the team for their efforts and urged others to emulate this kind gesture. She indicated that the donation was timely as they are in need of PPEs and other basic necessities.

“We are very grateful for this kind gesture. We really needed this items presented to us, I would want to use this medium to appeal to other organization to come to the aid of the staff and people in this community to enable that we stay healthy while we curb the spread of the virus” She appealed
