Bongo District in Upper East Region has received additional medical supplies to boost the fight against Covid19.

The Assembly a week ago ,distributed several items under the auspices of the DCE for Bongo ,Peter Ayinbisa.

But the medical essentials supplied and positioned at vantage points in the District which focused on intensified awareness creation of hand washing, have not been adequate to cover the entire communities.

And taking into consideration the District being a border one,the DCE saw the need to explore available avenues for support.

He therefore reached out to his development partners to intervene in protecting the District from the disease.

The appeal of Mr. Ayinbisa to WaterAid did not go unnoticed as there has been a positive and swift response to provide the required items to prevent the spread Of Coronavirus.

Addressing the Media at the forecourt of the Assembly where a symbolic presentation was made , Mr. Ayinbisa expressed gratitude to WaterAid for the support.

According to him, this was so far the largest donation to the District in the fight against the global Covid19 pandemic and commended WaterAid for the support.

“ I wish to express my highest delight to WaterAid for the support it has given to Bongo District today to support us in the fight against the spread of Covid19. Since the beginning of the spread of the virus, this is the largest donation we are receiving as a district and I must commend WaterAid” he said.

Mr. Ayinbisa however lamented the porous nature of the borders in the District and called on residents to collaborate in fighting the deadly disease.

Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of the Country Director of WaterAid, a Programmes Officer, Felix Gbevillah used the opportunity to commend government for its efforts to save lives especially the call for frequent hand washing.

He added his outfit had to intervene because the Bongo District has performed phenomenally to champion development under Peter Ayinbisa.

Mr. Gbevillah “frequent hand washingwith soap and water is one of the most effective ways of controlling the spread of infectious diseases. If everyone ,everywhere had a place to wash their hands with soap and water as often as needed and practiced good hand washing behaviors ,Ghana Would contain and prevent the spread many diseases including Covid19. However, some communities do not have adequate safe water or a place to wash hands”.

He hoped that the donation will be used judiciously and appropriately in the Bongo District to successfully fight the disease.

The items donated included; 30 complete Veronica buckets ,5 non contact thermometers,350 pies of Hand sanitizers (250ml), 1000 pieces of Nose masks ,300 bottles of Liquid soap(350ml) and 300 gallons of liquid soap(5litres).
