Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa South Constituency in the Upper East Region, Dr. Clement Apaak has announced that 200 students in his constituency will be supported with Ghs200,000.00 in their tertiary education as soon as approval is received from the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Daniel Kwame Gariba.
The stated amount according to the MP is being drawn from his Common Fund to support brilliant but needy students across the constituency.
He indicated that the initiative forms part of his efforts to enhance education in the area.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Apaak underscored the importance of education and expressed hope that the DCE responds swiftly to have the monies disbursed to the intended beneficiaries who are particularly brilliant but needy.
He said “We all know how important education is key to the future growth of our communities and district, it has become necessary for me as a legislator in this constituency to support these students. I wrote a letter to the DCE, Daniel Kwame Gariba, requesting that an amount of 200,000.00 from my share of the common fund should be disbursed to 200 brilliant but needy students who hail from Builsa South. And I believe he (DCE) will act on it swiftly because our youth need to be empowered at all sectors of their lives.”
“It is my expectation as well as the selected 200 beneficiaries that the management of the Assembly, headed by Hon. Daniel Kwame Gariba will act swiftly so that the students can have access to their money in time.” He added.
Asked whether the DCE had duly received the said requested letter, Dr. Apaak said “The District Coordinating Director received the request letter addressed to the DCE for Builsa South, because neither the DCE nor his secretary was in their offices at the time. As required, the letter was copied to the District Coordinating Director and District Finance Officer respectively.”
Giving a breakdown of the beneficiary students, Dr. Apaak said 113 males and 87 females from various communities across the district have been shortlisted for the educational support.
The MP further noted that a total of 657 students in the constituency have so far benefited from the use of his Common Fund to support education in the last four years.
Going into the December election, the MP, Dr. Clement Apaak, running on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is being contested by the DCE for the area who also doubles as the Parliamentary Candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
