UE: MARKET WOMEN APPLAUD ZOOMLION, GOV’T OVER FUMIGATION EXERCISE

Market women in the Upper East Region have applauded a joint effort by government and Zoomlion Ghana Limited to fumigate their shops.

As part of measures to fight the continuous spread of Covid-19 in the country, market centers, lorry parks and other public facilities across all municipal and district assemblies in the Upper East Region have been fumigated.

The exercise which took place last week was said to be the third phase of disinfecting public places in the region since the outbreak of Corona virus.

The move comes at a time there are reports of a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some market women who spoke to A1 News said they were worried about reports of the second wave of Corona virus; but have been relieved following what they described as a timely intervention to fumigate their stores.

According to them, the intervention somehow brought relief to them and their customers regarding the virus.

Mrs. Adongo, a cold store owner in Bolgatanga said, “When I heard of the second wave of the virus, I was scared but with this exercise by the Government and Zoomlion Ghana, I believe I and my customers are assured some level of protection from COVID-19.”

Rosemary, a Storekeeper in Navrongo said since the outbreak of the virus, she has been observing the safety protocols as issued by health experts; and was excited to see the fumigation and disinfection exercise carried out by Zoomlion Ghana.

Speaking to the media before the start of the fumigation exercise, Public Jobs Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Kojo Njabeore, said “As a company that believes in a healthy environment for the populace, and in the wake of this virus we see it as a duty. So, in the region here lorry parks, business centers, toilets, markets, abattoir and other important gathering places will be fumigated and disinfected.”

Ongoing fumigation exercise in some parts of Bolgatanga

Commissioning the exercise on behalf of the various municipalities and districts in the region, the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Joseph Amiyuure, called on the market women as well as the general public to cooperate with Zoomlion Ghana Ltd. for a successful exercise.
