Director of Legal Affairs of the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abraham Amaliba, has declared his stance against the propensity of his party going to court to seek redress over their loss of the just ended 2020 presidential election.

After the Electoral Commission announced President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as winner of Monday’s polls with 51.59 percent; beating the NDC Flagbearer John Dramani Mahama’s 47.36 percent, the opposition party, in a statement read by Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, yesterday, rejected the election results and indicated the party’s intention to take steps to appeal the decision of the electoral commission.

He said “We intend to take decisive and concrete steps both with the presidential and parliamentary results to overturn this brazen and shameless attack on our democracy.”

But speaking in an interview on Bolgatanga based A1 Radio; Lawyer Amaliba declared he was going to launch a campaign against any decision by the NDC to seek redress of their loss of this year’s presidential election in the court of law.

“We are careful not to use the court to legitimize the stealing of this election by the NPP. We don’t want to allow the court to endorse this illegality. We are still weighing the our options; but we are very careful not to go to court and the court will clear them; and when you want to talk about it they will say the court found nothing wrong with their victory.” He said.

Admitting that his stands may be an unpopular one, Lawyer Amaliba noted that “I may be voted out; I may be in the minority. And so when we eventually go to court do not say that I said we will not go to court. But I will make this case strongly that we risk going to court; and when the court endorse what has happened, the NPP will then be using that to legitimize their illegally won election.”

Meanwhile, he revealed that the NDC flagbearer would be addressing the nation later today where he is expected to announce the party’s decision on the results of the 2020 general elections.
