Some supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Bolgatanga embarked on street protests over the declaration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as President-elect in the Monday’s Presidential elections.
Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa on Wednesday announced that President Akufo-Addo won the election by 51.59 percent; beating the NDC Flagbearer John Dramani Mahama’s 47.36 percent.
However, more than 24 hours after the declaration, former President Mahama is yet to concede defeat. His party has claimed there were deliberate attempts to rob them of both their presidential and parliamentary victory.
In Bolgatanga, a stronghold of the opposition NDC, some supporters on Thursday evening mounted road blocks and burnt lorry tyres in protest of the outcome of the elections as declared by the EC.
The protestants were later dispersed by the police.
A1 Radio can report that many of the protestants were minors as seen in the video attached. One of them was heard saying: “We won’t agree.”
