A veteran Security Analyst, George Amofah, has bemoaned the current security situation in the country following the outcome of the 2020 election results and its associated cases of violence.

According to the former Head of Security at the University of Ghana, Ghanaians are not refugees, hence it is fundamental that they enjoy peace and security in their homeland.

Speaking on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East program on Tuesday, Mr. Amofah underscored the need for all security agencies in the country to be up to the task in the discharge of their duties.

He advised disgruntled political parties who feel cheated in the results declared by the Electoral Commission to take a clue from the event of the year 2012 and resort to the law court; rather than engaging in acts of violence as it has the potential of eroding the peace in the country.

“If after the election, you don’t understand anything, there has been a precedence in 2012, why won’t it be followed? And people should be told that they cannot take the country to ransom.”

“Some of us have worked to ensure that there’s peace and security in the country. Ghanaians are not refugees; they should make sure that they live up to the task. They won’t be collecting salaries and sit down and want some of us who are now old and weak to come and put things right. So I’m tasking the whole country, wives should tell their husbands, husbands should tell their wives, children should tell their fathers, fathers should tell their children that we need peace. We won’t be refugees.” He noted.

Mr. Amofah further attributed the isolated incidents of post election violence being recorded across the country to what he termed as weak governance.

He added that the security agencies in the country are weak; stressing they owe it a duty to protect the citizenry.
