Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen has called out supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to desist from what he described as violent protests across the country.

Following the declaration of NPP’s candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as winner of the just ended presidential election by the Electoral Commission (EC), supporters of NDC, clad in black and red have embarked on scattered demonstrations across the country protesting the decision of the EC.

They claim the election was rigged to favor the incumbent Nana Akufo-Addo.

There have been several calls from Civil Society Organizations and other bodies on the NDC presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama and his supporters to seek redress of their concerns by going to the law court so as to preserve the peace in the country.

But in a rather strong manner, Mr. Obiri Boahen condemned the actions of the supporters of the opposition party saying “They should stop wasting our ears.”

He challenged the NDC to go to court if it is serious as a political party.

“If they are not serious, nobody cares. They cannot be raving and ranting making ugly noise. Let them go to court. Why are they not prepared to go to court.” He added.

But speaking in a separate interview, Legal Team Member of the NDC, Bright Apraku, hit back at the NPP saying “We in NDC have not appointed anybody as an advisor or counselor to us. The decision whether or not to go to court lies with us to decide.”

He recounted that in 2012, it took the then opposition NPP 20 days after the party lost the presidential election to go to the law court.

According to Lawyer Lawyer Apraku, his party is currently conducting an audit of the disputed election results.

The Legal Team, he said will present its “report to the party’s flagbearer and together with the Council of Elders, they will come out with a decision that will be in the interest of the party and Ghana at large.”
