Calls on the 2020 flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, to accept the outcome of this year’s general elections have intensified; as a non-partisan, development-oriented group known as the Upper East Development Association (UDA), is calling on him to accept the election results as declared by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Chairperson of the commission declared the incumbent Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), as president elect in the December 7 polls; but Mr. Mahama who described the declaration as “fictionalized results of a flawed election”, rejected the results.

The rejection of the outcome of the election by Mr. Mahama and the NDC has instigated series of protests by party supporters across the country.

But the Functional Executive Board Members of UDA, in a statement signed by William Atindana and Godwin Asabire Akazee, believe the EC conducted a free and fair election; and has entreated the NDC flagbearer to either accept the verdict of the EC or resort to the law court for redress.

The group made this call in its congratulatory message to Nana Akufo-Addo on his re-election to serve a second term in office as president of the country.

“We use this opportunity to call on Candidate and former President, HE John Dramani Mahama to accept the verdict of the elections as declared by Chairperson of the electoral commission or use every democratic means available to him and his team peacefully in order to strengthen democratic processes and institutions especially the Courts for final settlement of any dispute”.

UDA further lauded the EC for what they described as a successful conduct of the just ended election adding that it was “a feat that many thought impossible to achieve in the era of this Covid-19 pandemic.”
