President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has indicated his determination to work with newly elected Speaker of Ghana’s 8th Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, to advance the development of the country.
The President was confidence that they will both be guided in their relationship by the supreme interest of the people of Ghana in ensuring good governance in the ordering of the affairs of the state.
In a congratulatory message to the speaker on his Facebook page, President Akufo-Addo said “I want to assure you of my wholehearted determination to work with you to advance the peace, progress, and prosperity of the Ghanaian people.
“Together, you and I will be chartering new territory in the governance and politics of the 4th Republic, for this is the first time in the life of this Republic that a President from one party will be obliged, by the exigencies of the moment and the will of the people, to work, in all sincerity and co-operation, with a Speaker of Parliament from another party.”
Many have expressed satisfaction over the president’s initial public pronouncements on the election and assumption of office of Mr. Bagbin; particularly because he (Mr. Bagbin) was not selected by the governing party.
The former Member of Parliament (MP) for Nadowli Kaleo, won a reportedly chaotic and closely contested secret ballot in the Chamber of Parliament on Thursday against former Speaker, Prof Aaron Mike Oquaye.
