A tournament for Division three clubs in the Kassena Nankana West District (KNWD) in the Upper East Region has kick-started on Saturday, January 16, 2021.
Organised by the KNWD Football Association, the tournament aims to encourage young people to participate in active football; as well as enhance intercommunity unity amongst the indigenous people.
The lead facilitator of the tournament, Jamil Atipaga, explained to Newsmen that the maiden tournament would witness four participating teams drawn from across the district competing among themselves.
According to him, the teams will play on weekends with home matches as well as away matches.
“The competing teams include Divine strikers, Sirigu Superstars, Falcon stars, and Afeni FC. Four venues have been selected to host these games. That are: Nakolo catholic park, Chiana Gwenia JHS park, Paga Town park, and Sirigu catholic park.”
Having started last Saturday, the league is expected to end on January 31, 2021, with the fixtures as follows:
