Principal of the Colleges of Languages at the University of Education- Winneba (UEW), Prof. Ephraim Avea Nsoh, wants the people of the Upper East Region to perform another burial and funeral rites for the late former President Jerry John Rawlings in line with the customs and traditions of the people of the region.

Prof. Avea believes this will serve as a better way to celebrate the life of Mr. Rawlings for his immense contribution to the development of the Upper East region and Northern Ghana as a whole.

“In fact I will expect, and I am still working on the idea that we need to give him a traditional burial here {in the Upper East region} to honor him. Beyond that, we can do a funeral here in our culture; we can organize a funeral for the same person in differed level. So in our region whether in Navrongo, Bolgatanga or Bawku and we will all go and join and do it, and I will be part of the people to lead that” He told A1 Radio.

The former President died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra after a short illness on November 12, 2020.

He was laid in state on Monday, January 25th and Tuesday, January 26th, at the Accra International Conference Centre for various interest groups and members of the public to have an opportunity to pay their last respect, and was finally buried yesterday.
