14 cases of confirmed COVID-19 cases have been detected in 11 schools in the Upper East region since schools reopened in January this year. The 14 cases were detected out of 18 suspected cases.

“Unfortunately, with all the measures that we have put in place, we have had few cases from the schools. We suspected 18 cases of which we have investigated from 14 schools and 14 positive cases were recorded from 11 schools”, Dr. Emmanuel Kofi Dotzi, Upper East Regional Director of Health Services, revealed.

The regional health director who disclosed this during a media encounter in Bolgatanga, added that “10 out of the 14, were managed and discharged but the 4 are still in isolation”.

Dr. Dotzi allayed public fears, saying that the cases recorded in the affected schools were rapidly “brought under control” and “academic activities were not disrupted”.

The regional health director who failed to mention the affected schools, stated that non-adherence to the COVID-19 safety protocols among the students and pupils is a factor that contributed to the spread of the virus in schools.
