Mumuni Assibi wins Upper East Regional cross country athletics competition

A student of Bolgatanga Senior High School (Big Boss), Mumuni Assibi has been adjudged winner of the Upper East Regional Cross country Athletics Competition which came off on Saturday at the Big Boss field.

She ran a time of 37 minutes 47 seconds to win the race with ease, to the admiration of her teaming supporters and other athletics enthusiasts who thronged the Big Boss school field to witness the event.

Pandam Chime also of the Bolgatanga Senior High School finished second with a time of 40 minutes 31 seconds while Alabugri Rabiatu of Bawku Senior High School placed third with a time of 40 minutes 57 seconds.

In the boys category, Bazaa Kurug Moris of Bolgatanga Senior High School won with a time of 39 minutes and 5 seconds, while Alale Iliasu finished second with a time of 39 minutes 18 seconds and Anyenaba Amos also of Bolgatanga Senior High School placed third with a Tim of 41 minutes 9 seconds

In all, 22 athletes were selected by the organizers to be trained for the next phase of the competition. The selected athletes will be pruned down to 12 (being 6 boys and 6 girls to represent the Upper East Region in the two events coming up in Sewfi-Wiaso and Accra respectively.

The organizers are very hopeful that if the athletes will display a better or same performance during the national events from 18th -20th February, then the Upper East Region will have a lot to be proud of.

The Upper East Regional Athletics head coach, Ali Atia in an interview, said he was impressed with the athletes’ performance and he is optimistic that team Upper East will do well at the National event.
