An Associate Professor of Linguistics at the Ajumako Campus of at the University of Education, Professor Avea Nsoh, has called on parents to stop denying their children the opportunity to learn their local language.
According to him, learning and speaking a language is a human right issue, and any parent who denies his/her child the opportunity to learn a local language could be in violation of their human rights.
Professor Nsoh added that parents should always seize the opportunity to teach their children the importance of their local language, as that will help preserve their identity.
Associate Professor of Linguistics gave the advice on A1 Radio when Ghana joins other nations to observe International Mother Language Day.
