An Educationist, Nii Ardey Armah has pleaded with the government to consider students in its decision to distribute laptop computers to teachers to supplement and enhance their Information Communication and Technology (ICT).
He said, the decision though welcoming, for teaching and learning to be more effective and easy, students too must be inclusive in the intervention.
Speaking on ‘DayBreak Upper East’ programme on A1radio, he said “My little challenge has to do with the students not been inclusive, because if the Learner is not inclusive, then we are still going to have that kind of deficiency, so we encourage government as they give those laptops to teachers, they must also seriously consider the students. Only this will ensure effective teaching and learning.”
It could be recalled that President Akufo-Addo announced in his State of the Nation Address that the Government of Ghana was going to offer 280,000 MTI laptops to teachers but with a share cost. Teachers will have to pay 30% of the cost of the laptops while the government takes care of the 70% cost
However, Nii Armah said, the promise of distributing over 280,000 laptops to teachers in various schools was very much welcoming because Covid-19 exposed our education to how we haven’t effectively used ICT in learning, so any attempt to provide ICT tools for education is very much welcoming.
