General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Aseidu Nketiah has said that the actions and comments made by the NPP majority leader in Parliament Osei-Kyei Mensah Bonsu of his appointment were based on emotions.

According to him, his appointment came in line with the laws of the House and the Speaker has the right to appoint any person to the Parliamentary Services Board to assist in Parliamentary affairs.

It could be recalled that the Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu is reported to have said that he was worried about the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin of turning the House into an enclave for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He noted that the Speaker virtually selected one too many members of the NDC to his office as advisers.

But speaking on JoyNews monitored by A1 Radio, Mr. Aseidu Nketiah expressed his disappointment on the actions and inactions of the majority leader, pointing that the comments of his appointment to the board were based on emotions.

He said, “The law allows the Speaker to appoint any person who is eligible to be part of the Parliamentary Services Board. I was surprised he made such comments. He should rather base his concerns following the laws in Parliament.”

Touching on whether his new role in the Parliament will circumvent his works as the general secretary of NDC, Mr. Aseidu Nketiah noted that balance in his secretary work to that of the Parliament will be a done deal.

“There will be nothing that will go unnoticed in terms of keeping check of what I am suppose to do as a secretary of my party.”

He however asked party supporters of the NDC to keep trust with the party executives and that of the minority caucus in Parliament as victory will soon be theirs come 2024 elections.
