
The University of Cape Coast over the weekend held its matriculation for the northern sector for students who will pursue distance education for the 2014/2015 academic year. The ceremony which took place at the Tamale Sports Stadium brought together fresh students of the college from the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Region respectively.
The purpose of holding the matriculation ceremony in the center of the northern zone is to decentralize the university’s operation. Being the first of its kind since the establishment of the university, the decentralization process will go a long way to reduce the fatigue and risk students and their go through travelling to Cape Coast to observe matriculation ceremony.
Speaking during the event, Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Professor Domwin Dabire Kuupole expressed satisfaction of the students conduct which qualifies them for admission to the university. Prof. Kuupole on the occasion congratulated the matriculants for making University of Cape Coast their choice to pursue their academic advancement. He also advised them to study diligently and as well be prepared to sacrifice their leisure time for studies to enable them achieve their goal not forgetting the oath they took.
According to him over 22,000 applications were received for various Undergraduate programs in the 2014/2015 admissions but 16,770 qualified. This comprises 13,839 pursuing various programs in education and 2,931pursuing programs in business. And out of 571 Post Graduates applicants, 512 were admitted for the 2014/2015 academic year. 1,890 students comprising 1,113 males and 753 females from the Northern zone were enrolled into the university to pursue various programs of study.
