Many needy people in some communities of the Bawku West District of the Upper East for the past years have deserted social gatherings and resorted to stay in their ‘corners’ to avoid shame due to the fact that they do not have good cloths to wear. The few lucky ones who appear at functions such as funerals, weddings and Sunday church activities in their communities have the mockery of some disrespectful people.

However, this dilemma of which vulnerable persons in the district most of them widows and orphans go through is now a thing of the past as a philanthropist, Aaron Issa Anafure, has come to their aid. Mr. Anafure, Managing Director of State Insurance Company Life Company Limited, donated bales of used cloths better referred to as ‘second- hand’ cloths to four deprived churches in some communities in the Bawku West District.

The churches are the Assemblies of God in Boya, St John’s Anglican Church at Yelwoko, the Church of Pentecost and the Assemblies of God Church in Zebbila. The SIC Managing Director’s initiative amounted to Ghc 5,000 of which Ghc 3,500 was from his pocket while the remaining Ghc 1,500 was from friends of SIC Life.

Mr. Anafure, who has been supporting the vulnerable in some communities in the southern part of Ghana every January which is his birth month, this year, chose to support needy persons in Zebilla where he hails from. He believes helping the needy is a form of blessing and pledged to continue to extend his support to the Muslim community.

While calling on individuals and organizations to support the needy in society, the SIC Director has plans to register the poor in society in the Bawku West District with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to enable them enjoy affordable health service.

Assembly member of Yelwoko Electoral Area, Jacob Atinga who is also a church member of the Anglican Church who could not hide his joy thanked Mr. Anafure for the kind gesture shown to the church. According to him, the donation which was the first of its kind to the church will go a long way to increase the church’s population.
