The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih has stated that there are a lot of business opportunities in the region that are underexplored.

Dr Bin Salih said the tourism sector is one area in the region where people can reap a lot of benefits from but these tourist sites need proper packaging and marketing to get the needed economic returns.

He made this known when the Upper West Regional branch of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry paid a courtesy call on him at his office.

The Regional Minister mentioned the famous Hippopotamus Sanctuary at Wechiau, the Sankana slave caves, slave defence wall at Gwollu, Wa Naa Palace, Gbelle game reserve, Tomb of George Ekem Ferguson and Wuling Mushroom rocks, among others tourist sites that could potentially give the region a lot of economic returns if properly packaged and marketed.

He again noted the hospitality industry could also benefit greatly if these tourist sites are properly developed because visitors to the sites would need places to eat and relax, thereby also opening up opportunities in the hospitality sector.

Another area of hope for the region he noted is the agric sector, where there is abundant land for crop and livestock productions. Unlike other areas, the Upper West has large tracts of land which is not being tapped for any useful purposes.

The Regional Minister hinted that government will soon establish a plant pool to enable farmers who cannot purchase farm equipment to hire for their farming activities.

Dr Bin Salih observed that there are abundant opportunities in almost all sectors in the region’s economy and the people must think outside the box to make the best out of these opportunities.

He added that people can venture into areas such as agriculture, education, hospitality, as well as arts and culture toto reduce the poverty level in the region.

Dr Bin Salih said it is high time the youth of the Upper West region cuddled these opportunities to remove the poverty tag of the region rather than folding their arms and claiming there are no opportunities.
