Zuarungu was formerly the Upper East Regional capital until Bolgatanga. Just like many towns in the region, Zuarungu has seen little development. One of the projects in the town that is in the hearts of the people of Zuarungu is the central market. The market that was constructed years ago has never seen major renovations. With dilapidated sheds in the verged of collapse, traders there sit in a scorching sun to trade.
However the plea of traders of the market will soon be a thing of the past as Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East Constituency and Deputy Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine over the weekend handed over a site for reconstruction of a modern market in Zuarungu.
The project which cost Ghc 1 million is expected to complete and hand over to traders within 6 months. Dr. Ayine said the reconstruction of the Zuarungu market is in fulfillment of a campaign promise he made during his errands in canvassing votes to become MP of the area.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry is implementing the project through the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly. Municipal Chief Executive of Bolgatanga, Edward Ayiriba Ayagle who described himself as the executioner was full of joy over the efforts the MP made in bringing a project in the municipality, pledged to ensure that there is quality work done of the project.
Vida Adiba a trader at the Zuarungu market said the current state of the market is deplorable and if it is reconstructed it will help them.
The MP of Bolgatanga East during his visit also handed over a site at Zuarungu Zonno for the construction of a Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound and another site at Pologo for the construction of a three class room block with a KVIP and store.
