Teachers in the Bongo District will either chose to grow trees provided to their schools and be promoted or left the trees to die and be demoted. Circuit Supervisors in the district are also tasked to supervise and report to the district directorate of education on the progress of trees planted in selected basic schools in District. Upper East Regional Director of Education who doubles Bongo District Director of Education, Emmanuel Zumakpeh gave this rigorous warning when Tree Aid, a Non Governmental Organization presented 2100 grafted mango seedlings to 74 selected basic schools in Bongo.
Tree Aid with its collaborating partner, Community Self Reliance Centre (CSRC) have over the years supported many communities to plant and nurtured assorted trees along river banks in order to protect water bodies. Project Officer for Tree Aid, Naaba Anecham Jonathan said despite the challenges Tree Aid faces, the organization was able to provide water delivery system through the use of tricycles for the growth of the trees.
District Chief Executive for Bongo, Alexis Adugdaa Ayamdoo commended Tree Aid for the support to green Bongo. The DCE pledged to grow the mango trees to drive the benefit of the trees. In order to green Bongo Mr. Ayamdoo stated that the assembly has instituted a policy to incorporate tree growing exercise in all building contracts awarded to contractors in the district.
Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional Area, Naba Baba Salifu Lemyarum commended the organization for the intervention to address climate change.
