Ghana joined its sister countries in the African Union to celebrate the 2021 Africa Youth Day (AYD). The national celebrations which have been scheduled to end on Wednesday, November 3, will be hosted in Cape Coast on the agenda, ‘Safeguarding Teenage Girls: A Clarion Call to Action.’

The NYA has announced that there will be several activities across all regions of the country to bring together the youth and major stakeholders in youth development to formulate strategic interventions to drastically reduce and prevent the incidences of teenage pregnancies in Ghana.

Speaking to the issue on A1radio’s Newslink, the CEO of Dansyn Innovation Social Organization (Dansyn ISO), Daniel Nang said while Africa has a bright future, there has been a problem of leadership. He explained this saying “in Africa, our leaders build hospitals for us and then when they are not well themselves, they travel abroad. The problem of Africa has been that we do not believe in ourselves and what we have. The status quo must however change,” he said.

Mr. Nang encouraged leaders to build the competencies of the youth so that they are able to take charge managing the affairs of the continent in the coming years. In the area of unemployment, Mr. Nang said while the phenomenon is prevalent across the globe, Africa’s situation is even more intriguing.

He said while it is important that young people do not look only to government for employment, government needs to do more to create an environment that allows young people to run businesses successfully. “You cannot borrow money as a business man in Ghana and make profit easily. The business will collapse,” he said.

Mr. Nang said, his organisation, Dansyn Innovation Social Organization (Dansyn ISO), is committed to building up the youth of the Upper East Region with employable skills to use in their search for jobs and also to help build their own businesses. He said due to partnerships with development organisations, Dansyn Innovation Social Organization has been able to train hundreds of young people in the area of digital skills.

He said his organisation does not only train the young people, the organisation also finds appropriate partner agencies that allow the trained youth to intern and hone their newly learnt skills.

The Africa Youth Day (AYD) day has also been set aside to highlight the immense contributions of young Africans to the cultural, political and socio-economic development of their communities.
