Residents of Nariguia in Ziou of Burkina Faso say they are worried about possible starvation in the wake of the military coup.

They say life has become hard for them in these few days as business activities have been put to hold.

“We can’t cross to the capital to buy things none do same to our neighbouring countries like Ghana. So, life is difficult for us as we speak, but we hope that things will change”, one noted.

These residents live along the Namoo border in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region and are largely petty traders and farmers.

Speaking to A1radioonline.com, they noted that the coup brought about a curfew which makes business operations in and out (Ghana and Burkina Faso) difficult.

Moiaméde Ouena, said though the military takeover brought about some hope, its current state coupled with the curfew makes life difficult for them.

He said “…as we speak roughly 5 pm, we can’t come out again imagine if you’re a businessman and went to the market to buy things and make a mistake and night befalls on you, the military personnel will definitely manhandle you. This, and many are our fears. Though I’m happy with the military takeover, business is not moving as we expected.”

They also noted that they are worried about their school children as they do not know when school will resume despite the usual resumption date of 1st February.

A final year student with the Lyccc Prive La Lumire school said the incident has traumatized her as she finds it tough to study.

“I’m finding it hard to study because I don’t know when school will resume. Aside from that, it will also affect our(students) education because our minds are on what is happening at the national capital and not the books. Our teachers too, will not have time for us even if we resume on February 1st as said.”
