A Social Commentator and Executive Director of Northern Patriots for Research and Advocacy (NORPRA), Bismark Adongo Ayorogo has said the people of the Upper East Region are not angry enough for development, the reason there has been a continued delay in the building of an airport for the region.

His comments came on the back of the failure of the government to commence the construction of an airport in the Upper East Region despite several promises.

The group in 2020 expressed doubt about the commitment of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to construct a domestic airport in the Upper East Region even when re-elected by Ghanaians.

Speaking to Mark Smith on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East Show following a question filed by the MP for Lawra Bede Ziedeng about the Wa airport and its related issues, Mr. Adongo said the unfaithfulness of the government to construct an airport for the people of Upper East has vindicated NORPRA’s position since there are no significant works on the site.

Again, he was worried about the fact that the 2022 budget failed to mention, in any way, shape or form, the Upper East Regional airport.

According to Mr Adongo, the people of the region are not angry enough for development else they would have held the government on its promises.

He said, “I think the people of Upper East, we are not angry enough, we are not hasty or angry enough for development. What we need to do is to speak the language that the government understands and that language is mobilizing ourselves and coming together to tell the government that we equally deserve an airport in this region. We have done the talking in terms of radio interviews, organized press briefings and fora. What we need to do as a people is to send a strong signal by mobilizing ourselves and embark on series of peaceful demonstrations so that government will get to understand how tasty and hungry we are for development”.

Touching on the One District One Factory policy where a leather tanning factory is being set up in Bolga Municipal, Mr. Adongo said the definition of a factory by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is not anything that will benefit a lot of people. This he says is attributed to the lack of proper research which should go into the establishment of a complete factory instead of what is currently being championed by the NPP government as factories.
